Meet Our Stain Eliminating Primer: The Bees Knees of Primers!

Our impressive Stain Stain-Eliminating Primer is a safe and effective bonding and stain eliminator in one!  It works on almost any surface—decks, concrete, walls, furniture, and cabinets.  It will effectively block tannins AND it is an amazing bonding primer.  With 4 colour choices, it’s perfect for all of your projects.

Available in four fabulous colours, here’s the lowdown:

  • White Primer: Perfect under whites and light colours.
  • Gray Primer: Great for medium colours like yellows and reds.
  • Clear Primer: Ideal for dark paint colours or when you’re distressing. (Note: It looks milky white in the can but dries clear.)
  • Dark Gray Primer: Best for very dark tones.

Available in two sizes, Quart/946ml and Gallon/3.8L.  Please note a Gallon is only available as a special order at this time.

We always recommend using our primer under white or light colours to prevent wood tannin bleed-throughs and under all One Hour Enamel applications for superior bonding and durability.

Coverage per 946ml tin (1 Quart): Approximately 14.86 sqm (160 sq. ft).

Application Advice:

  • Prep the Surface: Ensure it’s clean and free of dirt, grease, grime, wax, and chalk. Remove any loose or flaking paint by scraping, wire brushing, or sanding. Fill all holes, cracks, and imperfections.
  • Stir It Up: Stir the product thoroughly with a circular, lifting motion until it’s uniform throughout.
  • Apply the Primer: Use a brush, roller, or spray. For best results with a brush, use a quality nylon/polyester brush and a 3/8” (38mm) nap cover. Thin with up to 10% water for spray application.
  • Dry Time: Under normal conditions, it dries to the touch in 1 hour and can be reapplied in 4-6 hours. Some stains may need two coats and a longer reapply window to ensure thorough drying and sealing.
  • Top-Coat Time: Wait 24 hours after painting before applying the top-coat.
  •

Clean-Up: Clean brushes and rollers in soapy water immediately after painting.

Notes:

  • Priming is crucial if you’re painting anything white from the Depression era. These pieces will BLEED! Clean well and always use our stain-eliminating primer before painting. Allow 6 hours of dry time with each coat to ensure stain blocking. Occasionally, a piece may need a third coat.
  • Woods notorious for bleeding include Mahogany, Knotty Pine, and Cherry.
  • Always prime with Wise Owl Primer before using One Hour Enamel for extreme adhesion and durability. Cabinets, tile, and floors should ALWAYS be primed without exception.
